Overview
Queen Elizabeth is Uganda’s most visited national park for a reason.
The Park is home to 618 bird species which is the 6th highest diversity in the whole world and the highest in Africa, making it the perfect birder’s paradise. Queen Elizabeth is also the home of the famous tree-climbing lions of Ishasha.
When Her Majesty the Queen of England Queen Elizabeth visited the then Kazinga National Park in 1954, it was renamed after her.
Covering 1978km², the park’s diverse ecosystems, which include sprawling savanna, shady, humid forests, sparkling lakes, and fertile wetlands, make it the ideal habitat for classic big game, ten primate species including chimpanzees and another 94 mammal species.
Set against the backdrop of the jagged Rwenzori Mountains, the park’s magnificent vistas include dozens of enormous craters carved dramatically into rolling green hills, panoramic views of the Kazinga Channel with its banks lined with hippos, buffalo, and elephants, and the endless Ishasha plains, whose fig trees hide lions ready to pounce on herds of unsuspecting prey.
As well as its outstanding wildlife attractions, Queen Elizabeth National Park has a fascinating cultural history. There are many opportunities for visitors to meet the local communities and enjoy storytelling, dance, music, and more. Our guides have all this information at the back of their hands and will ensure a great experience for our guests.
